A First Literacy Professional Development Workshop

(Snacks and networking at 12:30 PM)

First Literacy
160 Boylston Street, 2nd Floor, Boston
(Across from Boston Common)

Sometimes oldies are goodies. In this interactive workshop, presenters will share their stash of favorite approaches, methods, materials, and activities for the ESOL class developed over the 30+ years they have been in the field. We hope to infuse the workshop with fun energy and useful ideas for the classroom—all in the interest of helping adult learners improve their English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Don’t expect anything related to technology –not that there’s anything wrong with that! You will have practical take-aways at the end of each session. Please feel free to bring your own tried and true resources to share.

Participants are asked to commit to both sessions.

Lenore Balliro is the Director of Programs at First Literacy. She has worked with adult ESOL programs for over 30 years as a teacher, curriculum designer, program director, professional development specialist, and editor.

Alison Simmons is the Program Coordinator for the HEART Consortium at Northeastern University. She has taught ESOL for over 30 years in the Boston area and abroad in various programs and worksites focusing on low level literacy.

This workshop is free to all staff of Massachusetts non-profit
ABE and ESOL programs.
