Effective teaching includes more than knowing your subject matter. This workshop will explore components that contribute to a smoothly functioning classroom—establishing and maintaining entry and exit routines; preventing and responding to classroom disruptions; keeping students awake and engaged; promoting inclusion, and staying on task—all within the a climate of respect for and high expectations of students. Deborah Lerme Goodman will share real-life examples from her many years of teaching adults. Participants will have a chance to engage in activities, view video clips that illustrate good practice, and create an action plan for their own classrooms.
Participants are asked to commit to both sessions.
Deborah Lerme-Goodman is the ESOL Department Coordinator at the Cambridge Community Learning Center in Cambridge, MA. She has been informed by Doug Lemov’s work, author of Teach Like a Champion and Teach Like a Champion Field Guide.
